Graduate programs (PPGs) aligned with Themes 1 and 2 of the Mineramundi Network that were linked to the project submitted to CAPES in 2025 are eligible.

For the year 2026, CAPES has not authorized the addition of new graduate programs to the Network.

Permanent faculty members, master's and doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff affiliated with eligible graduate programs and duly registered on the Sucupira Platform may apply under the calls for proposals.

Yes. Collaborating and permanent faculty members of the Graduate Programs (PPGs) may apply for the calls for proposals, provided they are tenured staff members of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) belonging to the Mineramundi Network (UFOP, UFOPA, UFT, UFRGS, UNILA, and UFCG) and are affiliated with the eligible PPGs.

Faculty members from other institutions participating in joint/associative Graduate Programs are not eligible to receive the grants awarded by CAPES Global through the Mineramundi Network.

The relocation allowance is a one-time benefit intended to help cover initial expenses associated with the scholarship recipient settling in the location where academic activities will take place, such as:

• accommodation;
• documentation;
• local transportation; and
• other expenses inherent to settling in the destination country or city.

This benefit is part of the package of allowances granted by CAPES to scholarship recipients, as stipulated in Public Notice No. 13/2025.

The funding provided under CAPES Global.edu Public Notice No. 13/2025 includes:

1. Settling-in allowance;
2. Travel allowance;
3. Health insurance allowance; and
4. Monthly stipend or scholarship.

The applicable amounts must be verified in accordance with CAPES Ordinance No. 1 of January 3, 2020, and other current updates.

There is no requirement for the Graduate Programs (PPGs) to pre-select applications. Programs are simply asked to guide their students regarding the criteria established in the Mineramundi Network’s call for applications.

Applications will be evaluated by a specific Mineramundi Network committee, composed of technical staff and faculty members from the six participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The selection process will place special emphasis on the alignment of the proposed work plan with the action plans for the Network’s Themes 1 and 2.

Furthermore, in accordance with CAPES regulations, the committee may:

• reallocate scholarships among Graduate Programs within the same HEI;
• reallocate scholarships among the different HEIs in the Network; and
• propose changes to scholarship categories to CAPES.

The "Sandwich Doctorate" scholarships offered by the Mineramundi Network are intended to last nine months. This duration aims to provide a long-term international academic experience that fosters joint supervision (cotutelle) and dual-degree arrangements - key strategic objectives of the Network. 

Applications for periods shorter than nine months may be reviewed by the steering committee on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the work plan's objectives and its contribution to the Network.

All required documentation must be submitted at the time of application, in accordance with CAPES guidelines and the call for applications.

Candidates must meet the academic requirements established by CAPES, including:

• having been enrolled in the program for at least one year or having already passed the qualifying examination; and
• returning to Brazil at least six months prior to the scheduled thesis defense date.

Applications are submitted individually and do not require prior selection by the Graduate Program (PPG).

Proposals will be reviewed by a dedicated committee comprising representatives from the six Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of the Mineramundi Network, based on their alignment with the Network's objectives, goals, and actions.

The committee may exercise the prerogatives granted by CAPES to select, reallocate, or, when necessary, convert scholarship and grant categories.

No. A pre-existing cooperation agreement is not a requirement for the application.

New agreements may be established when they offer institutional benefits to the HEIs within the Mineramundi Network, subject to the procedures and protocols of the International Relations Offices (or equivalent units) of each institution.

Yes. The work plan must demonstrate a clear link to:

• the central theme of the Mineramundi Network;
• Theme 1 (Circular Mining) or Theme 2 (Mining and Society);
• the priority policies associated with the project;
• the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
• the Network’s action plan;
• its strategic objectives; and
• its outcome indicators.

The alignment of the work plan with these elements will be one of the key criteria for evaluating applications.

The faculty member's department must be aware of their planned absence for professional development during March and April 2027 or September and October 2027. The faculty member must submit documentation indicating the department's approval of this leave. 

It is not possible to hire a substitute faculty member via public competitive examination to cover such absences. The faculty member must coordinate with their peers and immediate supervisor regarding how classes and other teaching duties will be made up. While the department may choose to utilize substitute faculty members already under contract for this purpose, there is no guarantee that such coverage will be provided.

Yes. Candidates must choose whether their proposal aligns with Theme 1 or Theme 2, as well as the action plan and indicators for the respective theme.

Jointly reviewing PDSE applications for Themes 1 and 2 allows the steering committee to reallocate scholarships between the themes.

Yes. Candidates must choose whether the proposal aligns with Theme 1 or 2, and with the action plan and indicators for Theme 1 or 2. 

No. The scholarships must be implemented in accordance with CAPES Circular Letter No. 5, which does not permit carrying over allocations to the following year. In the event that a Graduate Program (PPG) does not submit an application or an application is not approved, the scholarship may be reallocated among PPGs within a single Higher Education Institution (IES) or among the IESs in the network. The steering committee will make every effort to ensure there are no unutilized funds or unimplemented scholarships.

No. CAPES will provide payment to his/her overseas checking account; he/she will receive the scholarship and other allowances stipulated in Public Notice 13/2025 Capes-Global.edu.

First, it must be clarified that these scholarships will only become available if scholarships originally intended for study abroad are converted into scholarships for study in Brazil following the results of the CAP and PDSE calls for applications.
